Victorian Local Governance Association Board Elections 2017
Elections for the VLGA Board will be held in early February 2017. All eligible members are encouraged to consider standing for the Board and to participate in the election.
The VLGA Board election consists of a poll for the position of President and a separate poll for other positions of the VLGA Board.
The President will be elected by the membership. Under the VLGA Constitution the two Vice Presidents and Treasurer will be elected by the Board once it has been constituted.

Board Member: Councillors of member Councils (5 positions), other members (3 positions)
All members who appear on the Voters’ Roll at 12 noon (AEST) on 20 January, 2017 are eligible to nominate as a candidate.
Nominations open on Monday 23 January and close at 5pm (AEST) on Tuesday 31 January 2017.
Nominations will need to be submitted on a nomination form which is signed by two VLGA members and the nominee. The nomination form is available below under the Candidate Information Pack.
All nominees who have not previously formally committed to the VLGA’s Vision, Mission and Values must sign the nomination form which contains the commitment statement.
The nomination form may be accompanied by a candidate statement of up to 150 words and a photo of the nominee. Nominees would also be encouraged to provide a short YouTube clip, which will be placed on the VLGA website.
Members are entitled to run for both President and for the Board if they wish and are eligible. If doing so, they need to nominate separately for both polls. Should the successful candidate for the President also get elected to the Board, the eligible candidate with the next highest number of votes will fill that position on the Board.
Candidate sessions will be held at the VLGA Office on Thursday, 9 February 2017. This session is open to all VLGA members and provides an opportunity for all candidates to outline their reason for standing for the Board and vision.
Voting will commence at 9am (AEST) on 10 February and close at 5pm (AEST) on 17 February.
The count will take place following the close of voting on 17 February 2017. If there is a tied result for any position in the election, it will be determined by lot by the Returning Officer. The Returning Officer is the VLGA’s Governance Patron, Hayden Raysmith who can be contacted on 0407 826 775 or email email@example.com.
Announcement of results
The polls will be declared by the Returning Officer when the count has been completed on 17 February 2017. The results will be placed on the VLGA website immediately and all members will be notified by email on 17 February 2017.
Induction and first Board meeting
The induction of new Board members will be made by the CEO in the week commencing 20 February 2017.
The first Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, 23 February 2017 starting at 4pm. This will be held at the VLGA Office. The first item of business is the election by the Board of the two Vice Presidents and Treasurer.
