Nomination for VLGA Ordinary Board Member (Councillor)

Cr Susanne NewtonCr Susanne Newton 2.jpg

I am a newly elected Councillor at Darebin.  I am passionate about gender equality, politics, development and progressive social change.  On Darebin Council I’m interested in working towards stronger planning controls and good governance.  I am excited about the opportunity for more collaboration and sharing between councils and I believe the VLGA is an excellent place for this to happen.  I have experience in local government working at the City of Boroondara and Darebin City Council and have worked internationally for UN Women in Uganda and Kenya.  Outside of Council I work at the Institute of Human Security and Social Change at La Trobe University as their International Development Storyteller and I am co-convenor of Women’s Melbourne Network, a group which fosters young women’s leadership.

I hold a Masters degree in Business IT and a Bachelor of Arts with first class honours in English Literature and Political Science.
