The Community and Social Planners Network (CASPN) is a professional interest group of local government staff members who have a responsibility for community/social planning and development.

Aims of CASPN

With regards to community/social planning and development issues, CASPN seeks to:
  • Share information
  • Identify and discuss critical issues and trends affecting our communities
  • Co-ordinate policy development and planning between councils
  • Initiate professional development opportunities
  • Raise community awareness
  • Develop a position on issues of common interest and have an advocacy role in this regard
  • Identify best practice examples which work to improve outcomes for local communities
  • Promote principles of Integrated Local Area Planning
  • Promote social planning and community development

Membership

With a growing membership, CASPN links community and social planners from around fifty councils.  The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) and the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) are associate members. The VLGA maintains the membership mailing list and anyone can register to become a part of this emailing network. Being added to this list will keep you in the loop on any CASPN related events and information. If you would like your name to be added to this mailing list please contact our Resource Officer on the details below.

Current Activity

CASPN meets to share information and promote discussions between councils, identify common issues across councils and promote best practice in the field of community development and social planning. Invitations to meetings and events are sent out via the CASPN mailing list (see 'membership' above).

The VLGA continues to manage the CASPN email list and distributes information between CASPN members. If you have any information that you think would be beneficial to CASPN members, please contact our Resource Officer on the details below. Please note, information contributed will undergo an approval process before being distributed.
