7. Tribute to Sally Isaac
Sally Isaac passed away on 10 February 2009 after her determined, ever hopeful 12-month battle against an unrelenting illness that finally claimed her life. Sally’s bright focus, dedication, energy and calmly positive demeanour contributed so much to the WPILG Coalition between 1999 and 2003. While providing the WPILG Secretariat at the VLGA, her intelligence combined with such a loving heart and sense of fun made it a winning experience to work with her. Sally brought her shining light to the WPILG Coalition’s successful Strengthening Communities through Women’s Participation (SCWP) Project and the review and re-launch of the Victorian Local Government Women’s Charter. After she left this role at the VLGA she went to work at the City of Yarra where she continued to support the hope for the just, fair and caring community she passionately believed in, including the cause of women in local governments.
There are now several awards and events which recognise Sally's legacy - including City of Yarra annual Sally Isaac International Women's Day Breakfast – around International Women's Day. The 2012 event will be held on Thursday 8 March 2012, commencing at 7.15–9am at the Reading Room, Fitzroy Town Hall, Napier Street, Fitzroy.
