Affordable Housing Working Group

The VLGA is working towards advocating for a joined-up approach between local government, the community and developers on the issues of housing affordability and homelessness.

Role of Working Group

To focus on the need for joined-up approaches to Housing Affordability and Homelessness issues including:

  • Lobbying for funding and resources for future Housing Road Shows in urban and rural locations as well as other State Budget resources
  • Ensuring that equity and access issues such as the exclusion of rural and regional Local Government areas from the participation in federal and/or state housing programs and projects are highlighted at every available opportunity
  • Formation of Affordable Housing Working Groups in each of the seven Central Activities Districts
  • Ongoing involvement in the Universal Housing Alliance
  • Any other activities to increase the provision of affordable housing, and involvement and capacity of Local Governments, consistent with policies adopted by the VLGA Board

Meeting Schedule

Face-to-face meetings are usually held quarterly in the 2nd or 3rd week of the month, on a Wednesday or as required. Working Group members can also participate in meetings via teleconference if this is more convenient.
