Submission to Local Government (Electoral) Regulations Discussion Paper

The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) welcomed the opportunity to provide input into the proposed changes to local government electoral regulations.

As a peak body representing councillors, local government and the community, the VLGA supports a strong, fair and democratic electoral system for local government in Victoria.

Of the three significant changes proposed by the State Government, the VLGA supports the introduction of candidate information for voters however does not support the removal of candidates’ indication of preferences nor the extension of time for the receipt of postal votes to the period of nine days following the date of the election.
