MEDIA RELEASE
30 November 2010
The Victorian Local Governance Association is helping to address the disadvantage experienced by regional and rural communities in transport planning and infrastructure, by hosting a Regional Transport Workshop in Horsham on Monday 13 December 2010.
“ This workshop will bring together representatives from eight local governments in the far western region of Victoria, to provide them with a forum to discuss common transport issues such as lack of public transport services, high car dependence and the needs of their aging population, according to VLGA President Cr Heinz Kreutz.
“ Local governments in rural areas often find it difficult to access up-to-date transport information as the vast majority of training courses and policy releases occur in metropolitan Melbourne.
“ Our workshop, to be held at the Horsham Shire Council offices in Roberts Avenue, Horsham, will bring these best-practice transport resources directly to those local government officers who face the greatest challenges in Victoria.
“ Local government representatives will also discuss future strategies for working with the newly elected Victorian Government and achieving the best possible transport access for their residents, Cr Kreutz concluded.
