Wyndham City Council has been awarded our annual John Jago Good Governance Award for their Community Governance Model. The Community Governance Model addresses issues in Wyndham, including that fact that Wyndham is one of Australia’s fasting growing municipalities.
This model dramatically increases the number and variety of ways in which people can engage with Council and participate in community building.
The new governance model includes:
- A framework for community engagement
- A framework for community strengthening
- Targeted engagement events
- A leadership program
- A community planning process
- Issues based committees and
- Place-based committees
Judges agreed this model demonstrates a whole-of-organisation approach and is truly committed to inclusion and promotion of active citizenship.
The John Jago Good Governance Award is awarded annually to a member council or community organisation which demonstrates the values and principles of good governance, involving sound and creative community engagement practices. John Jago was a tireless and dedicated worker in the fields of indigenous issues, social justice and local government. John became involved with the VLGA in 1994 and was the Association’s President from 1998 to 2000.
