Background


 Effective consultation leading to genuine community engagement is crucial for local governments and essential to the practice of good governance, particularly with the introduction of Best Value Victoria (BVV).
The VLGA has forged an important and ongoing partnership with Local Government Victoria to design, develop and deliver consultation resources for Victorian local governments.

One of the resources that has been developed is Let's Talk, a supplementary edition to the highly-valued Best Value Community Consultation Resource Guide.
 Let's Talk shifts the focus to ‘participatory democracy’ with an emphasis on ‘relationships’ and ‘conversations’ not just methodologies. It also sets out ‘principles of good consultation’.
 Rather than duplicating past resources, Let's Talk offers extensive examples of ‘interactive or two-way’ consultation methods ranging from questionnaires to ‘new & innovative’ methodologies.
