Background


 Local government has a vital role to play in the better management of environmental issues, from recycling to wastewater to transport management and planning for sustainability.
The VLGA role has been to link community groups to their local governments and to promote partnership projects.
In 2006 the VLGA (in partnership with Dattner Grant, Sustainabilty Victoria and Hobsons Bay City Council) ran a successful Community Leadership program focussing on sustainability projects. The project was titled "Building Communities: A leadership journey" .(See Summer 2006 VLGA Bulletin for details.)
The project is continuing in Maribyrnong and Hepburn/Macedon Ranges in 2007.
