Step up, get elected!

For young people: how to claim your voice on local council.

A free and interactive forum for young Victorians (under 30s).

Do you want to make change happen?

Do you want to learn how to have your voice heard?

Are you ready to find out how to step up and lead?

Come along and learn about the basics of local government and some strategies to effectively engage with council.

Hear from a panel of young councillors on why they got involved, how they got elected and what they’ve been able to achieve.

We’ll bring the pizza, you bring the passion.

And the panellists are...

  • Cr Daniel Nguyen - Yarra City Council, a first term councillor and Mayor (2017-18), lawyer and Executive Officer of Tarwirri - Indigenous Law Students and Lawyers Association of Victoria
  • Cr Ashlee Fitzpatrick - Rural City of Wangaratta, youngest councillor in Victoria, elected at the age of 19
  • Shabnam Safa - candidate in the City of Casey in 2016, advocate and public speaker who came to Australia as a refugee at the age of 15
  • Cr Mi-Lin Chen Yi Mei - Yarra City Council, lawyer and first term councillor elected on the Labor ticket in 2016
  • Cr Georgina Oxley - Mayor of the City of Kingston, first term councillor and youngest ever woman Mayor in Australia
