Victorian Council elections are proceeding in October by postal vote, with COVID-19 measures in place.

New election regulations have been released by the State Government, in support of the new Local Government Act 2020. Incumbent Councillors and candidates will have questions about new legislative provisions, such as mandatory training and changes to electoral structures for some Councils. What will be the impact of COVID-19 on traditional campaigning activities? What do Councillors need to know about the election period, commonly known as ‘caretaker’, and how that affects decision making and electioneering?

The VLGA has assembled a first-class panel to discuss these issues, provide reflections from their experience in and around the sector, and take your questions. Joining us will be:

  • Kathryn Arndt, VLGA Chief Executive Officer
  • Victorian Electoral Commissioner, Warwick Gately AM
  • Cr Sandra Wilson, two-term Mayor of Hobsons Bay City Council
  • Tony Raunic, Managing Principal, Hunt and Hunt Lawyers
  • Chief Municipal Inspector, John Lynch

A Zoom link will be sent prior to the session
