Introduction to Gender Equality in Victoria

The VLGA is pleased to present an interactive introductory workshop for Victorian council officers across all departments. This workshop is the start of a series of workshops in partnership with Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC) and the Action for Gender Equality Partnership (AGEP) to prepare councils for their responsibilities under the Gender Equality Act 2020.

In this introductory course, you will learn about Gender Equality legislation, policies and architecture in Victoria, including an overview of the new Gender Equality Act and what it means for public entities.

Understand the difference between your council’s responsibilities under the Equal Opportunity Act, Gender Equality Act and Occupational Health and Safety.

All areas of council business are covered by the new Gender Equality Act and can benefit from the an understanding of the legislative landscape in Victoria. We recommend that councils send staff from across all departments.

This workshop is targeted to a generalised council audience, not just existing gender equity practitioners. Further opportunities will be available that address specific areas of council business, the application of a gender lens in Gender Impact Assessments and more.

Discounts are available for group bookings. Please contact Deborah Wu (Inclusion & Diversity Lead) to find out more.
