Join us for the first meeting of the Councillor Working Group. This meeting will take place via Zoom, however we hope to bring everyone together in person later in the project.

In 2022, the VLGA and Welcoming Cities will produce a resource which highlights the importance of cultural diversity in local government, intended to encourage Victorians from diverse backgrounds to engage with local government decision making and potentially run as candidates for election. The resource is also intended to assist Victorian council officers in engaging with diverse community members.

To shape this resource, the VLGA and Welcoming Cities aim to establish a working group of councillors from diverse cultural backgrounds (especially non-English speaking backgrounds), to collate case studies which capture their backgrounds, motivations, achievements and advice to others.

The group is also envisaged to continue as a peer support network, opportunity for knowledge exchange, networking and relationship building.
