The Victorian Government has set a target of 50/50 gender representation by 2025. To reach this goal, we need a substantial increase in the number of women councillors standing for election.  

The VLGA supports a diversity of candidates to stand for election and recognises the unique experiences of leading women in our communities. 

This session is tailored for women candidates to hear more about what it is to be a councillor, through a gendered lens. This includes key issues such as the gender-based barriers to standing for election, as well as the importance of self-care and balancing care and work responsibilities.
