Congratulations to all King's Birthday Honours recipients

The Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) extends its warm congratulations to the following Victorians who were recognised as part of this year’s King’s Birthday Honours List.

Bill Forrest received a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of his contribution to urban planning, the arts and to communities while working at Nillumbik Shire Council, Wyndham City Council and Moonee Valley City Council, as well as his ongoing contribution to the sector as a consultant.

Jane Nathan was awarded the Member of the Order of Australia for her service to local government as the former Mayor of the City of Hawthorn and as Brimbank Commissioner and Administrator.

We would also like to congratulate those recognised for their contributions to local government across Australia including:

Member of the Order of Australia

  • Albert Van Zetten, former long-term Mayor of the City of Launceston.

Medal of the Order of Australia

  • Former Upper Lachlan Shire councillor Malcolm Barlow for service to local government, the environment and to education.
  • Western Australian Ken Clements, a 30-year former councillor and Shire President at the Shire of Plantaganet and WALGA representative.
  • The late Neil Fisher from Queensland, former councillor and deputy mayor at Rockhampton.
  • John Lush, a former councillor at Adelaide Plains Council in South Australia.

Public Service Medal

  • Max Eastcott, General Manager of Gwydir Shire for more than 24 years with Gwydir Shire and the former Bingara Shire Council.
  • Brett Whitworth, Deputy Secretary of the Office of Local Government NSW.
  • Peter See for his 44-year service to local government, working as a Director of Engineering Services for 17 years across a number of councils in Queensland.
