Last week the latest gambling loss figures experienced through Electronic Gaming Machines (EGMs) in Victoria were released – and the numbers were alarming.
A record $3.15 billion was lost through machines being operated in Victorian hotels and clubs.
This is a rise of $115 million on the previous year.
The figures were recently shared at the VLGA’s Local Government Working Group on Gambling meeting.
The VLGA remains committed to working with councils across the state in their endeavours to reduce the level of gambling harm – both financial and social – being experienced at the local level.
The VLGA convenes the Local Government Working Group on Gambling (LGWGOG) and all VLGA member councillors and officers are welcome to attend.
The group provides an opportunity for councillors and council officers from VLGA member councils to come together to hear from informed speakers about current gambling harm prevention research and policy and updates in the regulatory environment.
The LGWGOG provides a resource for promotion of excellence that better enables effective policy, delivery and advocacy by VLGA members.
The group also provides a wonderful opportunity for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and capacity building across the sector.
